ITALY.
IN THE TYROL. GREAT WORK OF THE ALPINL (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) London, Sept. 26. The Times' correspondent on the Carnia front says the Italian troops are now dominating the great highroad through Plezzo to Tarvis, by way of jthe Predil Pass. Plezzo has been fast gripped since Italy occupied Moncombon. The Predil Pass fortifications crumpled under the Italian big guns, once more proving that fortresses are helpless against modern heavy guns. The Austrians seemed to have abandoned the fortresses, and have shown great skill in disposing guns among the mountains, but they are being slowly pushed backunder a relentless pressure. The eyes of the Austrian Alpini have been phicked out by the Alpini, to whom nothing is inaccessible —climbing precipitous peaks, dropping from rooks | with bayonet and knife, and taking I trenches without firing a shot; what cannot these troops do, \ who treat the mountains like wild goats? The Italian engineers are wonderful. They have driven roads up, round, and through mountains, zig-zagged on the face of cliffs, and blasted through great masses of rock.
FURTHER SUCCESSES. Received Sept. 27, 8.15 p.m. Home, Sept. 28. A communique states: We captured Sulden Spitze, 3576 metres high, after three night marches, although it was strongly held. The enemy on Sept 24, attempted a coup-de-main with large forces in the Cevedale zoDe. We counterattacked and repulsed them, and three enemy attacks on the whole front from Colpiccolo to i&rostanis Peak were also defeated.
