The Bev. Houcuen, late backblocka misaioner in Tar&naki, has been appointed Anglican Chaplain to the next Reinforcements.

Mrs. M. Clow, of New Plymouth, has received a cable from her son, Private Erne«t Glow, who was wounded on August 7: "Doing fine; nothing serious," Private advice has been received in New Plymouth that Private Gordon Sisley has been admitted to the 3rd Northren General Hospital, Sheffield.

Thcjßev. W. Grigg, of the Leeeton Methodist Church, has received notke of his appointment to fill the place of Chap-lain-Major J. A. Lurford, who has been wounded. Chaplain-Captain Grigg will go into camp on October 7.

Before leaving Whangamomoua for Hawera, whither Mr. 'Patton of the Post Office staff has been transferred, the ladies of the township presented Mrs Patton with a handsome salad bowl.

Mr. H. J. Gladstone, a cousin of the late Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone, died at Orari the other day. He was born in Liverpool in 1826, and was educated there. In 1854 he landed at Lyttclton from the Ashmore, and with tbe late Mr. Wat3on, who was at that time Eesident Magistrate at Akaroa, as partner, purchased a run in what is now known as the Mackenzie Country. Ten years later Mr. Gladstone sold his interest in the run aud purchased a farm of 600 acres at Orari, which he retained and resided upon till the time of his death.
