WEST END FORESHORE.

The West End Foreshore Improvement Society held a general meeting last evening at the Bungalow, -when the president, Mr. A. E. Sykea, occupied the chair. There was also a fall attendance of the ladies committee.

It was decided, in view of the fact that the East End were holding a picnic on •Labor Day, that the West End Society postpone their Gala Day, until November 4th, and on the following day to have a foonfire and fireworks display for the children.

The report of the laides' committee was received, and they were complimented on the way they dispensed the afternon tea last Thursday, the opening day. The sum of £1 Is was taken, and through the kindness of friends who gave all refreshments, the whole of the proceeds goes to the society. A ladies committee was formed to i make arrangements for November 4th, and it was decided to have produce, sweets, and Bale of work stalls, besides afternoon tea and the usual side shows. The Management Committee was formed into a sub-committee to make all arrangements in the other directions. The ladies decided to dispense afternon teas every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, two members of the committee, are to be on duty in rotation so that the work will be equally divided. The Management Committee discussed the matter of the stone wall to be erected on the Weymouth Street entrance, and it was decided to accept the plan submitted by Mr. J. G. M. Russell. The calling of tenders was left in the hands of the president, to report at the next meeting. The thanks of the society were tendered to the working bees who have given so much time, both on Thursdays and Saturdays, to work at the Park. Last Thursday all the grass wag cut, and the place tidied up. It was decided to purchase a mower, and to accept the offer of a voluntary member to keep the grass cut.

Several small accounts were passed for payment.
