ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the St. John Ambulance Association was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. J. E. Wilson) presided. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated first-aid classes for ladies, conducted by Dr. Rex Brewster were held last year at the Technical College, commencing in September. The doctor gave ten lectures. The roll number totalled 44, the average attendance being about 36. Doctors Wade and Blacldey held an examination in November. Twenty-one ladies went up for examination, and twenty passed. Sixteen were first-aid students, three third year (Medallion), and one fourth year (Label). A home nursing class was conducted by Dr. Rex Brewster, commencing in September. The doctor gave eight lectures. The roll number totaled 18, the average attendance being about 14. Dr. Fookes held an examination in December, and seven ladies went up for examination, arid all passed. This year a home nursing class has been formed, and the class is being held at the Technical College, every Wednesday evening, and Dr. Rex Brewster has kijndly given his services and is lecturing to a very large class of 72 ladies. This year a first-aid class was held in Inglcwood. Mr. ri. Stratford acted as class secretary. Dr. Whetter was lecturer and Dr. Nutting, examiner. Five candidates were examined and all passed. The thanks of the Centre are, due to the ladies who so kindly came forward" and gave, their services as collectors, and to the Mayoress, for her assistance in packing and forwarding cases of goods. The St. John Ambulance Association London, acceded to tne request of this Centre, and forwarded the Hon. Life Member's Certificate, to Dr. David Blackley, in recognition of his past honorary services to the New Plymouth Centre. The certificate was framed by the executive committee, and duly presented to Dr. Blackley.
The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £5 0s Od.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected:— President, the Mayor; executive committee, Mesdames Dockrill, Dowlin" Misses 0. Maekay, R. Clarke, Stanford! Messrs. H. Dempsey, E. C. Hughes, W. lieveridge, and W. Amburv; secretary, Mrs. Dockrill. ' - ' GENERAL. A resolution of sympathy with'the relatives of the late Miss Alice Hempton was passed. Miss Hempton was a prominent member of the association. Votes of thanks were passed to Drs Brewster, Fookes, Wade, Blacklev (New Uymouth), and Drs. Whetter and Nutting (Inglewood).
