FALSE PRETENCES.

PRISONER ADMITS FOUK CHARGES. Pour charges of false pretences were preferred against Hilary de Garis, alias Harry Curtis, at the New Plymouth Magistrate's Court yesterday. Mr. A. Crooke, S.M., presided. The prisonetf was charged (1) with obtaining money and goods to the value of £4 10s from Arthur (P. O'Leary, at Hawera, on December 12, 1014, by means of a valueless cheque; (2) with obtaining £5 10s in money from Thomas Harvey, at Waver, ley, on December 8, by means of a valueless cheque; (3) with obtaining £3 158 in money from W. E. Holliday, at Wanganui, on November 23, by means of a valueless cheque; and (4) with obtaining £4 10s in money from Thomas Mills, at Wanganui, on December 3, by means of a valueless cheque. The accused pleaded guilty to each charge and elected to be dealt with by the Magis* 'trate. Sub-Inspector Fouhy said the prisoner was now serving a sentence of three months in the New Plymouth gaol, having been convicted of stealing a bicycle at Eltham. Since then the present charges had been connected with him. Beyond the offence of theft nothing was know against the prisoner. The Magistrate imposed a sentence of one month's imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent) and to commence on the expiration of the sentence the prisoner is now under ; going.
