STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday. The Stratford Rifle Club journeyed to Eltham on Thursday afternoon to shoot a match against the Eltham Club. The teams were ten aside, and after some scoring the Eltham Club proved victorious by 806 to 760. Rifleman T. King was top scorer for the winners, with a total of 95, while Rifleman Townley scored 87 for the losers. Mr. J. W. McMillan has undertaken the duties of secretary to the local Patriotic Committee.

The funeral of Mr. '.'ins. Brown, a' well-known farmer at Cardiff, took place at the Koputama Cemetery to-day. The cortege was a very long one, and representative of the district. Rev. C. B. Howard officiated at the graveside.

At the Police Court this morning two young men were charged with failing to register. In one case the defendant pleaded that he was just over 21 years of age, and had not been in the dominion twelve months. Under the circumstances the S.M. convicted and discharged him, on payment of 7s court costs. In the other case the Magistrate fined defendant 20s and costs.

To-morrow at the C. B. A. Buildings the Dardanelles Market will be again continued. This time the proceeds are in aid of sending Christmas cakes and gifts to our boys at the front. To-day a contingent of ladies were busy mixing cakes, and Mr. H. Kerr has kindly offered to bake them, and these cakes will be on view to-morrow. It is hoped the public will patronise the market and so help to swell the funds to send gifts to our boys. What clock does the Post Office close the office up by ? Yesterday a friend of mine wanted to do some business at the Post Office. He arrived at two minutes to five by the clock outside, and found the office closed. This is not the first time this has happened, and the authorities should see that the office is closed by the outside clock, which the public take their time by.
