To-day's meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club marked the inauguration of a new system in regard to totalisator tickets. The system, which has been patented, is designed to prevent forgery. It is based on a combination ft varieties of tickets for every horse, which makes it impossible for anyone but a responsible head of the totalisator department to know what designs are to be used. Visiting sportsmen took great interest in the contrivance, and as a result of the system less than half the space originally required in a totalisator house is now necessary. NOTES ON THE RACING. (By Telegraph.—Special to Daily News.) Wanganui, Last Night. The weather remained fine for the opening day of the Wanganui spring meeting, but the attendance was only moderate. Good racing was served up, but favorites had a disastrous day,.only one (Nones) scoring, while several longpriced horses won their races very easily. Taranaki was well represented and Royal Arms and Coropet won, while Styrax, Patronymic, Bivouac and Maniaroa gained place-money. All started in the Flying Handicap. Bimeter carried the Bulk of the money. but Glenroy. and Mia Cara were also we'll backed. The favorites were first away, Glenroy setting a torrid pace. Mia Cafa led into the straight and, desperately ridden, got home a head in front of Bimeter. Taringamutu *yas a fair third, and then came Lady Middleton, Glenroy, and Tangihou.

•Another good field lined up for the Maiden Race, Moutoa Queen being a very hot order, with Sea Down, who was rushed at the last moment, the best backed of the others. Black Ada led to the turn where Moutoa Queen and Sea Down passed her. Sea Down easily held Moutoa Queen in the run home, and Marsinali finished fast in third place. Seddel Bahr was fourth and Black Ada fifth.

There were no scratehings in the Wanganui Stakes. Nones was made an oddson order, and led all the way, winning very easily from Battle Eve.

Styrax carried most coin in the Okehu Hurdles. Aratiatia. made the running until challenged by Styrax at the home turn, but "both ran out and Royal Arms dashed through on the rails arid won a fine rac« by a bare length from Styrax, who just beat Aratiatia. Ruatangata wag fourth and Cornelian fifth.

Parawanui was strongly, supported for the fionville Hurdles. Epworth led until six furlongs from home, where Patronymic was rushed to the front. St. Gate joined Patronymic at the four furlongs post and led into j,hc straight. Patronymic made a game effort,'but St. Gate struggled on gamely and scored a long overdue win.

Spain carried a ton of money in the Putiki Hack Handicap, but got away badly. Bivouac and Coropet led all the way, the latter staying on best and winning easily. lady Louisa was the only withdrawal from the Spring Handicap," Fortify and Banksia carrying' the bulk of the money. The favorites got away badly, and Peroneal led to the half distance, where Square Deal drew up and won easily. Maniaroa finished fust, close up, third. * Welcome Xugget and Bronk Delaval dividi'd favoritism in the Durie Hack Handicap, but both lost ground when the tapes went up. Deviation led from /end to end and lasted long enough to beat Tlikahakeke, with Fore and Cordon next.

Fortify pulled up lame after contesting the Spring Handicap, and looked to be in a bad wav.
