ON THE SEA.
IN THE SEA OF MARMORA. TURKISH TRANSPORTS LOST. Received Sept. 23, 11.60 p.m. Athens, Sept. 23. A message details the doings of the Allies' submarines in the Sea of Marmora in August. The transport Beeralep, which was sunk on tlie eighteenth had three thousand troops: the Barbarossa had several thousand, and another transport had three thousand trained grenadiers. Turkey is disguising the losses of the transports by renaming other vessels. SWEDISH STEAMER TAKEN. A HAUL FOR ( THE GERMANS. Received Sept. 23, 9.35 p.m. Copenhagen, Sept. 23. The Swedish steamer Nera, with twelve thousand tons of corn and 250 tons of oil, from Gothenburg, and bound ostensibly for Stockholm, was captured on the voyage by German destroyers, it is believed with the connivance of the shippers. A" GOVERNOR'S RUSE. SCARED OFF SEA RAIDERS. London, Sept. 22. An incident is related that when the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau \ ere cruising in the neighborhood of Fiji early in the war Sir E. B. Swcet-Escott, the Governor, who is now in England, by a clover ruse prevented an attack. 'He sent a wireless message: "Patcy, Australia. Received your message, expect you in the morning." The German cruisers picked it up and altered their course. Subsequently a letter of a German naval officer showed that the wireless message 'caused the cruisers to, change their plans, sparing Suva. TWO STEAMERS SUNK. London, Sept. 22. The Dutch steamer Koningen Emma struck a mine. The passengers and crew were saved. The Danish steamer Thorvaldsen was also sunk, the crew being saved. YACHTSMEN AS PATROLS. London, Sept. 22. Mr. Marks, the Sydney yachtsman, who is in England, ' speaking of the patrol work in the North Sea, is of opinion that an opening exists for a naval volunteer reserve of competent yachtsmen and motor-boat engineers, whose services would be of much value. He is communicating with the Admiralty on the subject ~* ' '
