Mrs. Howling, of New Plymouth, received word yesterday that her son, Sergeant R, E, C. Dowling, arrived at Malta on September 8 slightly wounded.

Major Powles was for some yearn in the timber industry at Te Kiri, and subsequently acted as manager of Messrs Isbister and Co.'s timber yards at Te Horo, and for a considerable time resided, with his wife and family, at Okato. Mrs. W. Bengo, a very old resident of Grc-ytown, died on Monday. The deceased was ninety-live years of age, and arrived in Wellington forty-one years ago. She left three children, Messrs Henry and William Benge, of Greytown, and Mrs, Wayland, of Kalgoorlie, Australia
