Holmes, which is to bring Oregon pine to New Plymouth, is at present loading at Forts Ludlow and Gamble, Puget Sound. The yesßel.is expected to arrive, here before the end of the year. THE OLDEST STEAMER. Which is the oldest steamer afloat? The Ceres of Padstpw seems to "take some .beating,' seeing that she was built in 1811. . For over 100 years she was a sailing vessel—a ketch—but a year or two ago she was fitted with % motor eDgine, and so now appears in the Mercantile Navy List as a steamer! Probably few of the original timbers of the old craft remain, but she is often to bo seen ploughing along the Bristol Channel carrying cargo. . She is owned by Mr. W, W. Pethericfc, the local lion, agent of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society of Bude. [The Ceres can scarcely be classed as "the oldest steamer," seeing that she was a sailing vessel for over 100 years. The distinction of "the oldest steamer in the world" may, we confidently think, be allotted to the yacht-!ikc Stormbird, which after a half a century of years, is still as good as the day she was put in commission.]
