STRATFORD JERSEY BREEDERS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Hie annual meeting of the Stratford branch of the Jersey Breeders' Association was held on Saturday afternoon, when Mr. E. Kirk wood presided over a fair attendance of Jersey breeders. It was decided that the annual subscription be ss. The secretary was authorised to sell stock at 5 per cent, commission on behalf of members.
It was recommended to the Council to adopt some system of identification of all registered cattle. The matter of testing herds was discussed at some length, and Mr. Peterson asked that the matter be left until the next meeting. The chairman strongly advocated the adoption by the National Council of some scheme of herd-testing for purebred cattle. He instanced the good work of the Jersey cattle at the Waitara, factory, where the average test had risen in five years from 4.2 to 4.6, and contended that an effective herd test would prove that as an economical producer in the dairy herds of Taranaki the pedigree Jersey has no competitor.
It was decided to protest against the tho Association's action in not allowing all members the same privilege of advertising in the booklets distributed by the Council. The election of officers resulted as follows:—'President, Mr. E. Kirkwood; committee, Messrs. J. Shotter, J. D. Healy, D. Watkin, E. L. Mellow, W. V. Ilarkness, W. Vickers, P. Peterson, J. Belcher, J. B. Clemow, Kanford, CFSulUvan and Uhlenberg; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. D. Stanley.
