ARCTIC EXPLORATION.

STEFANSSON FOUND. Hy Cable—Press Association—Copyright, Ottawa, Sept. 17. Villi jalmur Stefansson, the explorer, | lias been found in the Arctic safe. He lias boen missing since 1914, when the vessel Karluk was wrecked. It was believed that Stefansson had been lost. ETo sailed from Victoria, British Columbia, in June, 1913. Steffansson discovered a new land south-west of Prince Patrick's Land, and does not propose to return home until he can ascertain the full extent of the new country, the existence of which was hitherto unsuspected. Steffansson, who has one schooner left, intends to ascertain if the new land is the supposed Polar continent which many previous explorers believe exists off Prince Patrick's Land. This news from Steffansson was secured through the schooner Buby, which went north on a sjareh expedition and also to take supplies for the Canadian North-west Mounted Police.

During their absence the ice unexpectedly broke up and the ship was carried away. The party made their way to Point Barrow, and news was received that Stefansson meant to proceed with his journey, taking the auxiliary steamer Mary Sachs in ease the Karluk did not reappear. The Karluk, however, was crushed in the ice in Behring Strait and part of her crew lost.]
