■ ' THE - CORINNA. Th ; : Corinna arrived on Saturday with something over 600 tons of general cargo, and left for Wellington in the evening. She returns from Wellington to-morrow, leaving the same day for South, instead of on Wednesday, as previously notified. NOTES. Mr: C. • -E.. Loighton, purser of the' Marama, has been appointed purser of the Niagara. He will, however, accompany the Marama to San Francisco and back, after which he will transfer to his 'new vessel. Mr. T. Thompson, purser of the Niagara, will come ashore at Sydney "on that vessel's arrival there on the 22nd October.
For the position of secretary of the Merchant Service Guild, recently vacated by Captain D. J. Watson, who went to Australia' to take command of a transport, over 100 applications have been received. Tlir-sic arc being considered by the guild' committee, and it expected that the final selection will be made in the course of a few davs.
The British steamer Mimosa, reported in last week's cable messages as having been torpedoed and sunk, was a vessel of 3406 tons, engaged in transport work. At'latest advices from Home she was commanded by Captain Trevanion Hugo, brother of Captain T. Hugo, of Wellington, Inspector of New Zealand Fire Brigades. She was built by Short Bros., of Sunderland, in 1905.
