STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Friday. A painful accident to a boy happened at the Pembroke Road this morning. A nephew of Mr. E. Bulls was running up behind a house when the animal lashed out striking the child on the head. The little sufferer was brought into Stratford where Dr. Stevens had to put in several stitches. The amount paid out this month by the ILowgarth Dairy Company is £2170, and by Cardiff £3170. Both companies have paid out bonuses and these are included in the above amounts. Another application for exemption from drill was made at the S.M. Court this morning. The applicant was an operator at tihe local picture theatre, and said it was impossible for him to attend the parades in the evennt,, Lieut. Gray said the lad could drill with the High School cadets in the daytime, and the application was refused, and the applicant ordered to drill with the cadets. Mr. J. Armstrong, Traffic Manager, was in town to-day, and conferred with the president of the Chamber of Commerce on railway matters in connection with this district, especially the new time-table that is to come irrto force on the Stratford-Whangamomona line. The Catholic Social, held last evening, was a great success. Despite the bad weather a good crowd assembled, and, as always the case with these popular socials, everybody enjoyed themselves.
