SUPERPHOSPHATE FROM JAPAN. Mr. Arthur H. Hassall, of Sydney, has arranged for two vessels to bring cargoes of superphosphates to New Zealand this season> The first to arrive will be the Japanese steamer Shinyo Ttfaru, 5909 tons, previously known as the Breconshire and the Pindari, and built in 1891 by Harland and Wolff. She is already en route from Japan, and should reach Timaru about the end of this week. The Kwanto Maru is also loading at Japah, and latest advice states that she should reach the dominion some, time this The New Zealand Shipping Company NOTES. Tim Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer* Port Albany left Newcastle on Monday for Auckland, where Homeward loading operations will be commenced. The vessel will subsequently call at Napier, Wellington, and Lyttelton.
The steamer Maritime, which the Union Company is reported to have purchased, is understood to be none other than the former N.D.L. liner Schlesien. Soon after the war broke out this vessel was seized and subsequently sold for about £65,000, so it is reasonable to presume that the Union Company has paid a fairly substantial price for* her. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that tho steamer Dorset is to leave Townsville (Queensland) next Saturday (18th inst.) for Wellington to load for London. The vessel will proceed next to Wanganui, Picton, and back to Wellington, and will leave Wellington, for London via Monte Video. Advice has been received that the U.S. and A. liner Indian Monarch took the loading berth at New York last Sunday for Australia and New Zealand. The vessel will probably sail in about three weeks' time. She will proceed via Panama Canal to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
