RELIEF OF SICK AND WOUNDED.

BOWLERS' HELP, MEETING OF TARANAKI CENTRE. A general meeting of delegates to tho Taranaki Bowling Centre was held in the New Plymouth Club's pavilion yesterday, Mr. W. A. Parkinson (Hawera) presiding, there being also present: Messrs Robertson (Hawera), Murray (Eltham), Masters (Stratford), Percivall and J. Allen (Inglewood), S, Smith (Fitzroy), Hill and' Sole (West J3nd), M. Fraser, A, Smart, and Firth (New Plymouth). _ The chairman explained that the meeting had been called mainly to discuss the question as to what efforts the bowlers in the Taranaki Centre should make towards raising contributions to assist the Patriotic and Wounded Soldiers' Funds. He pointed out that it hid been considered that the bowlers of the dominion, as a body, might render valuable service by raising funds for some object which was for the benefit of those who had taken part in the war. He stated that in other centres a scheme had been advocated for bowlers to combine and erect a convalescent home at Eotorua, but up to the present no definite action had been takon, and he suggested that it was for the meeting to give expression to their views on the matter, After speaking on patriotic lines at some length, he moved: "That the Taranaki Bowling Centre approves of the proposal to organise bowlers in the Nor.th Island with the object of assisting in the relief of the sick and wounded of the war." Mr. J. D. Sole seconded the motion.

Considerable discussion took place, several delegates emphasising the fact that the Government intended building a convalescent home, and that it would be far better for that course to be adopted, thus enabling any funds raised by bowlers to be usefully employed in providing extra comforts, etc. Eventually Mr. Masters moved, as an amendment: "That the Taranaki Bowling Centre approves of the proposal to organise bowlers' help in connection with the relief of the sick and wounded in the war.

The amendment, which was seconded by Mr. A. Smart, was carried. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. M. Eraser, it was decided that all clubs within the centre be invited by circular to help, having each club to make its own arrangements for raising a contribution to the centre fund, such fund to be hold in trust pending the formulation of a definite scheme dealing with it, which shall meet with the approval of the Taranaki Centre. It was also decided that all Banner, challenges must bo accompanied by a subscription of 4s per rink, subscriptions thus received to be paid into the centre'* Wounded' Soldiers' Fund.
