REINFORCEMENTS.
DEFINITE STATEMENT FROM MINISTER. (By Telegraph.—Special to Daily News) Wellington, September 14. The Defence Minister, replying to a demand for the despatch of additional troops, said that he was asked to train and send away at once all men available. That was not what the Imperial authorities wanted. They wanted New Zealand to look ahead for a year at least, and be sure of oar ability tJ ketp up reinforcements. If the Imperial authorities wanted a higher rate of reinforcements they would say so. Should we 6cnd away all the available ir.cn now we would not meet our obligations in the matter of reinforcements. In any event, said Mr. Allen, we have not the staff here and we have not the equipment to train much larger bodies of men than already provided for. Our pledge to General Godley is to keep the lore* up to its strength. That was Lord Kitchener's instruction. He has never altered it, and we have never departed from it.
