CHRISTMAS PRESENTS.

TO OUR MEN AT GALLIPOLI. Mr. JV. J. Neilson, of the '-'Royal Arms" cheese factory, (Ptiniho, has decided to donate a crate of cheese (valued at £5) to the lads at Gallipoli as a Christmas present. In writing to us on the matter, Sir. Neilson says:— "This is a gift pure and simple, and not a free advertisement for my cheese. It is only a small donation to our New Zealand boys at the front, to get them a little bit of a good time during Christmas. I think this will be acceptable to tihem as a Christmas box. I would also propose that, with the assistance of the News, that a subscription list be opened, asking all to subscribe any coin they like, the same to 'be enclosed in the cheese by a committee appointed by yourself, so that when the cheese k A' tributed our boys will have the sport of spending the coins as well as eating the cheese. I may state here that this morning I mentioned the scheme to Mr. W. A. Oorbett, Oxford road, Okato, and he said 'he will also present a crate of cheese, and will deposit in my crate of cheese to be presented a golden sovereign. This I accepted with pleasure. I shall deposit into his cheese & golden sovereign. (This is a start. These two crates will be shipped to' our boys at the front, and, I trust, with many more coins, large and small, enclosed. At the same time I would like to invite all cheese factories to do the same, every factory to present one crate for every 100 tons of cheese it manufactures, which will be in Taranaki a nice load of cheese, with cash for those who are keeping the Hun from our door, where we are living in luxury and having good times, while they are doing more than we will ever know of. It will be necessary to have all moneys collected 'by, say, October 16, as about this date cheese will be manufactured and coins enclosed. A week later the cheese would be shipped, so as to arrive in the Dardanelles at Christmas time, and would be at that age nicely matured."

fWe will be very pleased if other facto accept any coins for placing in the cheese.]
