By Telegraph.—Presi; Association. Wellington, Last Sight. The Victoria College Council to-nig'M considered the question of the retention of Professor Von Zedlitz on the University staff as Professor of Modem j Languages, and the following resolution l was adopted: 'That the Finance ami Business Committee, together with Mir. A. R. Atkinson, be directed to present a petition to both Houses of Parliament, praying that no legislation be passed which will interfere with the free exercise by this Council of its functions under the Victoria College Statutes." Dr. 0. P. Knight had given notice to move tbat Professor Von Sedlitis bet given twelve months' notice of the termination of his engagement, but he withdrew it because of the action of Par. liament in threatening the Council with legislation affecting one of its servants, a procedure which, he said, was a subversion of the authority and powers oi the Council. The Council to-night received intimation that the Macarthy Trust had decided that the Public Trustee allocate the sum of £IOOO a year out of income, till £IO,OOO is accumulated, the fund to be an endowment of Victoria Collego for the establishment of school economics, and to bo called the Maoarthv Sohool of lSconomhjfr
