The Mayor (Mr, J. E. Wilson) left New Plymouth for Wellington yesterday morning. Mr. Wilson will he away for 1} few days. A private cablegram was received in New Plymouth yesterday stating that Surgeon-Major G. Home, of New Plymouth, has recovered from his illness and has returned to the base. The Wairarapa Presbytery yesterday nominated Rev. P. W. 'Cur'rio,' of Balclutha, as Moderator of the next General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.—Press Association. Privales'll, Reed and Warragh returned to Stratford by "Monday night's'mail train. They were met at ilie station by his Worship the Mayor, Councillors, and Patriotic Committee, and escorted to motor cars that were in waiting. Cheers were given for tlie returned men. Mr. Hugh Daily, of New Plymouth, yesterday received a cable stating that his son,. Private Ronald Daily (who is in Pulham Hospital, London)' is suffering from a fractured thigh, which is also poisoned. The doctors are trying to save the leg. The cable added that Private Daily's condition is satisfactory. In the House of Reps, yesterday, a vote oi sympathy with the widow and family of the late Mr. .lolin MeLaehlan, ex-M.P, ior Ashburton, and appreciation of his services was passed. A similar vole was passed in the ease of Mr. Georgg Beetham, ex-M.P. for Wairarapa, and the House adjourned till 7.30 as a mark of respect. By the much regretted death' of Mr. \\ illiam liorrie, Manaia town and district has lost one of its oldest and most esteemed residents (says the Huwera Star). Mr. Borric was for many years a farmer a ICaupokonui, where lie was one of the founders of the Kaupokonui Dairy Factory Company, and for many years its chairman. Tlie last annual meeting was the first ho ever missed, and that only through severe illness. He was a progressive farmer, and was prominent in all movements that were instituted for the good of the district. He was also prominent in work on public bodies, and was a member of the old Waimate Road Board for many years, and was chairman on several occasions. In many others ways Mr. Borrie did most useful work. His loss will be severely felt in many directions.
