TURNED DOWN.

To the Editor. Sir,—ln your Saturday's report of the recent meeting of shareholders of the I'atua Dairy Company, you omitted to mention that a fairly substantial majority of those present turned down a proposal that- the company should allocate to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund oneeighth of a penny per pound on the present season's output of butter-fat. The resolution was moved by myself and seconded by Mr. Smillie, 'of Tataraimaka. I regret, for obvious reasons, that I am unable to give either the number or names of those who were for and against the proposal. As I feel very strongly Oil the subject, may I aslc you'to publish these facts to save future misunderstanding? The expressed desire of those who opposed the motion, to wait until the end of the season before doing anything, needs no comment from me. J hink of it. Sir—uno-eighth of a penny (or, in the alternative., one-half per cent, on the season's output!) to swell thtf fund to' provide for our brothers who are being wounded and maimed at the battle-front for us! One-eighth of a penny! Think of it! Refused! Compare this contemptible poverty-strickoii proposed donation with the supreme sacrifices our sons and 'brothers are making for us! Sir, I am humiliated.—l am, etc., W. 11. HAWKINS. Tataraimaka, September 11.
