IN THE WEST.

BATTLE FOE. THE HEIGHTS. Paris, Sept. 10. A communique states: The enemy attacked our positions on Lingekopf and Barrenkopf, using asphyxiating shells. Our first line trench at Schratzmennelle was evacuated, owing to the use of blazing liquids. By a counterattack we regained most of the lost ground. The enemy gained a footing, but was subsequently ejected, from the summit of Hartmann's Weilerkopf. Our aeroplanes bombarded mines and batteries in Noaienbruedk Wood, and the railway station at Lutterbach, and dropped thirty shells on the railway station at Grandpre.
