A BIG RUSSIAN VICTORY.
The Eussian armies have bad such a strenuous and harassing time of late, and been compelled to continuously retreat, that to-day's news of their big victory at Tarnopol comes as a most gratifying surprise, and is especially welcome in consequence of the Czar having just taken over the chief command m person. What effect this will have to stemming the onward rush of the enemy it is impossible to conjecture, but the moral cfleet caused 'by the capture of eight thousand prisoners and thirty guns, besides inflicting enormous losses en the Germans, must certainly be conaiderable. The magnificent courage and patience displayed by the Russians in their retreat has won the admiration of the Allies and neutrals. We sincerefy trust that - at length the tide Ttas turned, and that Russia may now assert her strength with that success which ghe so , ritfhly deserves. The victory comes at a most opportune moment, and should stimulate the Allies to achieve a similar success. That it will inspire the Russians to further deeds of valor is certain, and it will cause a feeling of great rejoicing among those who are striving to crush the enemy of peace.
