CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, September 3., At the invitation of the Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister in Charge of Munitions and Supplies, between thirty and forty of the leading engineers and esperts of-, the Dominion assembled in conference in Wellington this morning for the purpose of considering whether tho manufacture of munitions of war in New Zealand is practicable andd feasibld/. In opening the conference, tihe Hon. Mr.. Myers remarked that the lin-t tiuii all those gentlemen who had been in- ■ vited had made it their business to. attend was tangible 'proof, if proof' were needed, of the desire of the people-''of this Dominion to do everything!-in-'.their power to assist Great Britain and her Allies in bringing this, war to a success- . ful conclusion.' The Minister explained the action already taken by the Government, in oll'ering to send to Great Britain workers skilled in the'manufacture of munitions, and indicated the . result of the enquiries instituted with a view to ascertaining whether it was possible to secure, from any sourct, material and plant suitable "for the tnamifacture of munitions in New Zealand.At his request the conference then made an exhaustive exhibit of munii tions and equipment, arranged by the Defence authorities. Brigadier-General Robin explained the requirements of tlie military authorities in the matter,, irter which the conference proceeded with the consideration of the question as to the extent to which further assistance might be rendered.
