COMMITTEE MEETING. A well-attended meeting of the Tarenaki A. and P. Association was held in the secretary'* office last night. Mr. J. S. Connett, president, occupied the chair. It was resolved to forward a • letter of sympathy to the relatives of Mr. Geo. White, who is seriously ill, and to express the hope that he would soon re. cover. A .vote of sympathy,with Mr. 11. King in his recent bereavement was passed. The president briefly reported on the result of the appeal to dairy, factory supplier;. He expected to have attendcd all the meetings by: the date of the . annual meeting. So far he was fairly well satisfied with the results »« regard: ed membership, but the donations had been somewhat disappointing. A statement of accounts was received in connection with the oxchange with the Defence Department of the Coronation Hall for land at Waiwakaibo. The society had a. cheque of £2B 7b 6d on the transaction. . The president stated that the position was . that the society now owned six scctioiib at Germain Square, and the two annexes, as well as the aite at Waiwakaibo of 10V« acres, free of mortgage, and -had a debit balance of about. £6OO. Their assets were e£t*uia,ted at 43500. Tho balance showed that there had been a loss of il-iOt) on the autumn show, and a profit of £l3O. on the winttr show.. Two hundred pounds had bfea lost on .the year**! working. The New Zealand Council of Agricultuie forwarded ft copy of a resolution passed at tNe last confejience, to tho effect that local agricultural committees be appointed by. .county . councils throughout the Dominiaft, and that the Department of Agriculture be asked to ' make tise of the sefvlces ot shah committees in experimental and other agriculture, instructional and development worln. ' The chairman stated that the »cuem# that he had outlined to dairy eomp*n<ie», in asking- for them to appoint representatives to-the eommittee, carried but the idea suggested'. It -would establish the link that had been milting in tba past. He thought that it was the duty of agricultural aocie.ties rather than county councils to form siu-h sub-com-mittees. ' : • ' The New Zealand Council of Agriculture notified favorable replies had been received from both the Minister of Public Works and Minister of Labor to the resolution passed at the annual conference, asking that in view of the large number of men who had gone to the war, and the very probable large harvest, there would bo a shortage of farm labor, and that tho Government be nkcd if they would consider the slnokcning off of public works to enable a supply of labor being available fur, the harvest. The agricultural socii't), was therefore aslJed to forward' definite 'information in regard to the amount of labor required ill different localities.

The chairman stated that the Muvor of Now Plymouth had taken t|ie matter in hand some time ago, vnd had forme 1 a patriotic committee, to whom It wai resolved to forward the circular.
