PROFESSOR VON SIEDLITZ. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Professor von Sicdlitz lias sent a. letter to the chairman of the Victoria College Council in which, after reviewing the campaign against him, he places himself unreservedly in the hands of the council to take any course they please towards him. He denies that he is a German subject, and states that he lias taken the oath of allegiance to Queen Victoria, Edward VII., and George V., and would do so again if permitted, but in view of the fact that irresistible pressure is threatened against the College Council by the highest authority in the country ho feels it due 'to the council that ho place himself in their hands.
"The Professor has not resigned," said Mr. Clement Watson, chairman of the College Council to-night, "but he has put his ease entirely in our hands. I have taken no steps yet to call a special meeting to consider his letter, and at present, hardly think I will do so, unless members desire to deal with it immediately. I propose, however, to see some of them as soon as possible, and will then decide what to do." Mr. Watson explained that six days' notice had to be given when calling a special meeting, and that the next regular monthly meeting, which falls on the third Wednesday in each month, was only twelve days ofi'. CHRISTCHURCH MEAT COMPANY, Wiingaiuii, Yesterday. A slaughtering license was granted last night to the Christchurch Meat Freezing Company in connection with the establishment of new works here, tenders for which will bo called within a fortnight. , The directors decided to include a preserving plant in the works. The machinery has been already ordered from Home. t M'Lean and Co.'s tender was accepted by the company for tho erection of an 800 ft. jetty from the works, at which produce will be loaded into lighters for transhipment to Home boats. NEW ZEALAND EXPORTS. Wellington, "Last Wight. The values of Now Zealand products exported during the week ended August 31 were as follows:—Butter £7124; cheese £41,933; frozen lamb £122,322; frozen mutton £79,548; frozen beef, etc., £57,964; gold £201,810; grain and pulse £571; hides and skins £31,354; kauri gum £733; flax and tow £4698; tallow £12,527; timber £5566; wool £95,546.
