BURGLARIES AT HUIRANGI.
On Thursday evening, during the absence of the occupants at a patriotic concert at Huirangi, the residences of Messrs A. Eowc, J. H. Smith, and 0. J. Herrick, settlers of the district, were burglariously entered, and the thief, or thioves, made a fairly good haul. At Mr. Howe's a considerable quantity of jewellery was missed, whilst the clandestine visitors had either stolen or eaten a pudding. From Mr. Smith's residence, sums of money amounting, in all, to : about £i were abstracted from various rooms, whilst other sums were untouched, the thieves apparently being disturbed. Mr. Herrick lost some cash, a post office packet (his residence is at the poßt office) a new hat, and some other articles. Next morning the package was discovered in a paddock about 15 chains away, with the contents broken and strewn about. The matter is in the hands of the police.
