STRATFORD TOLL GATE.
QUESTION IN THI2 HOUSE. 1 TOLL TO BE ERECTED. By Telegraph.—Special to Daily Ne*»,: Wellington, Last Night. ' Mr. C. A. Wilkinson (Egmont) oaked tho Minister of Public Works towhether he would tako steps to prevent the Stratford County Council from> erecting a toll gate on the main road connecting Wellington and New mouth. Tliis road, he said, La over two hundred miles in length, and putt* through the boundaries of number* of* local bodies, many of which may equally ? claim the same right if this application is acceded to. . Hon. Mr. Fraser (Minister of Publia Works) said, in reply, that the QommU< sionev had reported' that there was no's s good reason why the Council's proposed■■ toll gate should be vetoed, and, as the whole of the net proceeds of the toll would be used solely and permanently for improving the road, so as tp make it fit and safe for traffic, he (thi Minis* ter) had recommended the Government to consent to the setting up of the toll* gate in question. j '
