CANTERBURY 32; OTAGO 9. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christelmroh, Saturday. The annual football match Canterbury v. Otago was played this afternoon, and resr.lted in an easy win for Canterbury by 32 points to 9. WELLINGTON 22; AUCKLAND 8. Wellington, Last Xigiht. The Wellington v. Auckland representative match was played at Wellington on Saturday in beautiful weather, with an absence of wind, and before upwards of five thousand spectators. On the whole, the play was in favor of the local team, who eventually won by 22 points to 8. The first score was awarded to Wellington through a visiting player obstructing Ready when lie was about to fall on the ball. No goal resulted. Shortly afterwards W. Ryan scored from a forward rush, the kick at go.al being again missed. An attractive passing rush by Tilyard, Algar, Tancred, and j. Ryan ended in the latter scoring under the posts, from which he kicked a goal. Another try was secured by W. Ryan, but the kick was unsuccessful. Auckland were aggressive for a while after this reverse, until another passing rush among the Wellington backs saw Klnvig over the visitors' line at the corner. When half-time arrived Welinglon were 17 points and Auckland nil. The second spell was fast and open. J. Ryan, for Wellington, scored a try from which Tilyard kicked a goal, and Han is staled a try for Auckland, from which Barker kicked a goal. Barker also kicked a magnificent goal from an infringement on the part of Wellington. Mr. W. J. Meredith wa9 referee. NEW PYMiOUTTT HIGH SCHOOL DEFEAT NAPIER. * Napier, Last Nipht, The New Plymouth and Napier Hiffli Schools met yesterday in the triangular contest. Beautiful weather prevailed, and there were about a thousand spectators. The Napier boys were i much overmatched, hut put ui> a good' fight against their sturdy opponents. At the end of the first spell the score was, New Plymouth 3 (try), Napier 3 (penalty goal.) In the second half the weight of the visitors told, and Natiicr were practically all the time oil the defensive. Ninv Plymouth added l.i points (five tries) to their score. The scorers for the visitors were Bruce (2). Tuohv and Svkes (3). Findlav kicked a penaltv goal for Napier. The visitors showed fine combination, and their passing pretty and effective. Bruce was the pivot upon whom the back t>hr- worked, and he gave an outstanding disnlay.
The Stratford School beat ilie West End School (Xpw Plymouth) on Saturday, by 10 to nil. The game was played on Victoria' Park, Stratford, and was keenly contested. THE LEAGUE CAM. Auckland Last Xiciht. The Auckland League Representatives defeated Thames yesterday by 27 points to 10. For Auckland Ro<i«ers ■(2), Rukutai, MeWhirter, Jones, Walters, and McGregor scored tries. Cross converted two and Walters one. For Thames Lomas (2) and Ryan (2) scored trie?, one of which Winder converted, Evon al?o potted a goal. ASSOCIATION. Auckland Last Nijilit. Kverton, 4 goals, beat Tabernacle, 2 fj'oals; Brotherhood A 3 goals, defeated Brotherhood B, 1 goal.
