VARIOUS ITEMS. Sydney, August 28. The Federal authorities have prohibited the shipment of sixty thousand carcases of meat loaded by the State Government for Imperial purposes. Tho Commonwealth has further assigned a portion of the cargo for use in Victoria. Mt. Black has telegraphed to the Commonwealth that, as the meat belongs t9 the Imperial authorities, he intends to sthip in. accordance with the agreement. Mr. Black threatens to issue a writ for damages against the CommonweaJtii if he persists in commandeering Imperial meat for Victoria. In connection with the Woodleigh tragedy, a man named Allan, whose actions | since the murder had been s-uspieioua, committed suicide. Black trackers discovered Allan's boots fitted the footmarks at the spot where the woman was killed. Melbourne, August 28. Mr. Hughes stated that the agreement with Gibbs, Bright and Co. and Elder, Smith and Co., with regard to wheat shipment, included chartering remuneration of 4d per ton,, instead of a commission of 5 per cent., which would be returnable to the Commonwealth. ■The fee paid to Arms is subject to revision after half a million tons have been chartered. Perth, August 28. The Assembly passed the second reading of a Bill providing for a referendum on the early closing of hotels. Adelaide, August 28. The Assembly passed the six o'clock hotel closing Bill unamended.
