Received August 30, 12.85 a.m. Petrograd, August 29. A communique states: The situation in the Ria district is unchanged. There is stubborn fighting in the Friedrichstadt region, the enemy attempting to force our lines towards the Mitau railway. Our counter-attacks checked the enemy's offensive towards Vilna. Wo continued our retreat on the middle Niemen and on the front between the Bobr and Pripet, holding the enemy's offensive by fighting. The enemy's advance was most marked in thcßielovicsh forest and on the roads near Kobrin. The enemy has begun the offensive near Lidunir, Jolynski, and Torchin. The enemy secured a footing westward of Podgaitzi, on the left bank of the Ziotalipa.
AUSTRIAN REPORT. Received August 29, 4.10 p.m. Amsterdam, August 28. An Austrian communique says:—Our troops stormed and captured the enemy's positions between Gologory and Dunajoto, the Austro-Germans capturing those near Brzczany. We took six thousand prisoners. There lias been eX■tenaive fighting eastward of Wladiinir and Wotynski. General PuchaQ's troops threw back the enemy northward of the Pripet marshes and approaching Kobrin.
