HUIRANGI.

A PATRIOTIC GATHERING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Thursday evening was a hefty night at Hulrangi, when a'concert and dance was held in aid of the Wounded SoldiersFund. That practical sympathy exists in thi3 district was evident from the number that attended the function, and is shown by results. The concert 'panned out something over £lO at the door, collections by several children alter rendering a song netted over' £-1, and Cuptain Allen's appeal with "The AbaentMinded Beggar" showed n. profit of over £7, while two cakes, donated by Mesdames R. Wilson and F. Y. Andrews brought in the sum of £3O. In addition to this some £3 10s was subscribed for the purpose of sending along fourteen leather waistcoats for the use of our boys at the Dardanelles. Summing up, sometliing between £55 and £OO was subscribed, as the people of the district say, as their first instalment. If they continue on the same lines they are on the right road to show they are doing their duty, for, in addition to various other little functions that have been held, the numerous perscaal gifts made, and the fact that through their factory deductions something like £•220 have been handed over to the North Taranaki Patriotic League, Jluirangi can safely say that it is doing its part. The programme of the concert was an excellent one and much appreciated. Mr. Walter Matthews was, as usual, the ideal auctioneer for such an occasion, and all those who were responsible for the carrying out of the affair deserve the heartiest thanks of the League. Already they talk of the next concert, and no_ doubt will redouble their successful efforts. The last purchaser of c;. 3 of the cakes was good enough to Aland it over to the North Taranaki Patriotic League for the purpose of again selling for the funds. The donor is one of those who lias volunteered for the front. To-day it is understood that the cake will be auctioned at Uruti, and it will again make its appearance in Waitara on Thursday night at Mrs. Phil Nathan's recital.
