TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.".) Egmont-Wanganui Hunt to-day, Marton acceptances should appear this morning. Weights for the Dannevirke meeting are duo to-morrow. Sydney papers are expecting Lord Multifid to win something big very shortly. If Expedition has McDonald in the saddle at Wavcrley he will be hard to stoush. They say that Cornice can gallop some. Can she beat White Blaze in the Moumahaki Maiden? Cornelian fell at Ellerslie, but is said to jump hotter the other way round. Reads well in the Patea Steeple too! The Maniapoto gelding Potonui is a ibold jumper, but wants planing down before he will be worth ibackinr;. Aha looks the best of a Ibad lot in the Wavcrley Hunters' Hurdles, and is not weighted with overmuch "pudden." Gentlemen riders will be up in the Eg-mont-Wanganui Hunt Steeple, Hunters' Hurdles, Hunters' Flat Race, and Ladies' Bracelet Steeple. Where will they come from; Although the steeplechase fences arc big at Waverlcy they are well constructed. Good wings, take-off and landing show that Mr. J. knew his work well. The first of the Hallomas foals running at Bushy Pank is a ibay filly out of Vivandel. She is a beauty, and looks like carrying Mr. A. Alexander's colors with distinction when the time .comes. . One of the best races at Wavcrley should be the Kakaramca Hack Handicap. Iceberg' is .well treated, and Wel-~cenw-N«gset's .owncr.-.trainer has nothing to complain of either. If amateur riders can be secured, a good field should contest the Ladies' Bracelet Steeple. . There should be some fun here, and possibly a decent dividend. , Bally Rahine. (late Black Boy) ..has a jumper's chance. Warea 'is Ibound to have a lot of supporters' in the Hunters' Flat Handicap. If anything gives the, top-weight a stretched neck it may be Durane, or possibly Formosus.' It'•■; looks nice on paper, anyhow. The first race, the Patea Steeple, is .tiitftid '-to start, at 12-.15, ,-and the last race at 4.13, so there should be no dragging in the programme: Mr. J. Coombe will officiate at the starting machine. Old Salvodan died in Auckland the other day at the age of 22 years. He was. by Salvator, the champion AmurVan, miier, and although he did" not have many opportunities in this country, he sired some fine jumpers, not-; uhly Black Northern, Antarctic and Armagh. The ex-New Zealander North-Eitst is still running 'iti welters in the, Newcastle district, but seeiM to have lost his pace. One of Sydney's biggest Bar Vons advertises that he "hands out long-odds tit bits" ok various meetings. His scream adds, "The punter with the can't-beAeat good thing—that in not : common property—can catch a cottage ! lo a caser, or ;>. terrace to a tenner.' - I Ca/tch New Zealand Ikeys dying of an enlarged heart!
