GERMANS STILL ADVANCE. EXODUS OF INHABITANTS. Amsterdam, August 22. A Tageblatt correspondent says the Austro-Gernians are within ten kilometres of the outer forts of Brest Lito;vak. The Russians are experiencing difficulties in retreating across the Bug, especially they have been thrown back to the immense swamps near Rokitho. Petrograd, August 22. Bomb-dropping aeroplanes have been frequently ovpr Brest Litopsk. The M&ole of the Grodno-Bielostock-Brest-Litovsk railway is still in the Russians' possessions. Immense stores and provisions, and precious monument-;, such as Anokolsky's statue of Catherine, have been conveyed to the interior, hundreds of trucks beinnr required for the transport of municipal property. All copper articles have been secured. There are. endless processions of refu ■gees from the Kovno district streaming along the Wi&oiuir Road. Tho Bourso Gazette says that the German advance detachments appeared towards Suientziany, on the A r ilnaPetrograd railway, and the Russians vigorously drove them baelt, and were also successful in an important engagement near Mitau.
