HARBOR BOARD.

THE MONTHLY MEETING. 'The New Plymouth Harbor Board met .yesterday. Present: Messrs J. B. ConJiett (chairman), Newton King, C. E. Bellringer, D. J. Hughes, E. Maxwell, J. Marx and C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. Leave of absence was granted to Mr, E. Dockrill, who is in Wellington. SHTPIPING AT THE PORT. The harbormaster (Captain W. Waller) reported that the arrivals for the five weeks ending on the 14th hist, consisted of 23 steamships, aggregating 22,981 tons. The imports amounted to 7758 tons, including 247"i tons of coal, 1014 tons of which was for private use and 1481 tons for the Railway Department. The exports for tiie same period amounted to 800 tons, making a total of 8558 tons handled. The report was received.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. The superintendent of works (Mr. F. Henderson) reported for the five weeks ending on August 14 that the Paritutu dredged with the buckets on 24 days, the net time being 208V3 hours, and removed 38 loads of spoil, amounting to 1a,200 tons. Ten days were occupied at the eastern fairway in lifting 23 loads, which has advanced the cut 200 feet seaward. Eleven days were occupied in lifting eleven loads from the third basin cut, which has been advanced 100 feet seaward, and three rough days were occupied in dredging in the shelter «t the inshore eastern berth, from which four loads were removed. Dredging was stopped for two days for the quarterly boiler cleaning and for one day in lifting and re-laying moorings. The Thomas King pumped at the breakwater bank on 21 Vi days (net time 18!) hours) and removed 159 loads, amounting to 12,720 tons. The Thomas King was also engaged for 24 hours in lifting 43 boulders from the basin area. The diver and crew had been engaged on 14 days in clearing boulders, and the hands were employed at the usual wharf and plant repairs. The piled landing at the horse-shoe bend has been completed and the erane was now lifting the boulders and spawls which covered the gravel. The report was received.

GENERAL. Accounts amounting to £4227 19s 3d Were passed for payment.
