TARANAKI DISTRICT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Taranaki District Committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs L. A. Nolan (in the chair), S. Pitt, O. W. Sole, W, C. Phillips, J, McLeort, G. Fraser, J. Gray, A. Alexander, F. Orbejfc W. T. Hookliam and E, F, Blundell. The following trainers' licenses were granted:—J. Phillips, R. H. Pepperell, J. James, H. Eva and J. Barlow. Joekevs' licenses were granted as follows:—II .H. Webb, R. W. A. Howe, 11. S. Goldfinch, J. Eva. Fred. Cook was granted ail apprentice's license. Gentlemen riders' certificates were granted to F. C. Anstis, E. N. Anstis and 11. E. Russell. The stipendiary stewards' report for the last season was read. It was decided to recommend to the District Fund that iMra. AV. L. Mitchell be granted a compassionate allowance as recommended by tiie conference.
TAIUNAKI JOCKEY CLUB. A meeting of the committee of Hie Taranaki Jockey Club ■was held subsequently, tlie same gentlemen being present, with the exception of Messrs Gray and Pitt. The following sub-committees were appointed for the coming season: — Course Committee: Messrs L. A. Xolan, B. H. Chaney, L. B. Webster, 0. W. Sole, A. Alexander. Programme Committee: Messrs N'olan. King and I'lundell. Messrs King, Blnndell and Alexander were appointed a committee to supervise the construction of the new entrance, which work is now in progress, and the same committee was also authorised to deal with the question of ornamental gates for the main entrance to the course. Mr. 'W. C. Weston was appointed assistant clerk of scales, Mr. A. Lash was appointed clerk of course, and Mr. .T. Bennett hon. timekeeper. Mr. 0. O'Connor was elected starter for the autumn meeting. The appointment of a starter for the Christmas meeting and also of handicapper was hold over until next meeting. A very hearty vote of thanks was ac corded to the Hon. 0. Samuel for his services to the club as Its representative
at tlie recent Racing Conference. Accounts amounting to £2l 7s were ipasßcd for payment.
