"The crowds who demonstrated against Irishmen leaving Scotland, in order to avoid; registration, shouted, "Cowards!" and called, "We hope the submarines will sink you all." When the men return they will be dealt with by the registration authorities. THE NEED FOR MUNITIONS. WOMEN WORKERS AT SHEFFIELD. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) Received August 17, 7.40 p.m. London, August 10: Sheffield is now a gigantic arsenal, where work is being carried on continuously day and night. The silverware trade has been stripped of men, who have gone to the munition works, but a large volume of employment has been found in the tiadc itself for the production of sword handles, scabbardß, and badges, while the cutlery trade is makii'g swords, bayonets, knives, and other cutting tools. The production of munitions is undergoing enormous expansion, while operations arc being greatly extended for the making of shells. Many new shops Have been built, on a large scale; these, are not yet all working, but are gradually being equipped.

COST OF LIVING. V*- INCREASE IN WAGE ROLLS. l'.eceived August 17, 10.30 p.m. London, August 17. Food prices in Britain have increased during the past twelve months thirtysix per cent in large towns, and thirtythree in small towns. The Board of Trade reports little unemployment, except in a few of the "luxnrv' trades. The demand for labor in coalmining, engineering, ship-build-in*;, and agriculture greatly exceeds the supply. Two and a half million workers have received, since the war, Increases aggregating four hundred thousand pounds sterling weekly. WOMEN AND THE WAR. DIFFICULTY IN REGISTRATION. Received August 17, 10 p.m. London, August 17. The enumerators have not completed the collection of registration forms, and delays occur especially in the slum districts. Tenements are empty during the day, and the enumerators are revisiting them during the evening. Many women are exercising the privilege of posting the forms, to avoid giving information to the enumerator, who, in many cases, is a woman neighbor. Permission to post forms is calculated to encourage women to state their correct ages, but some women complain that the forms do not show women's value for war work, such as knitting and attending soldier-,' buffets. ]
NEW DOCKS ACCOMMODATION. Received Augsut 17, 5."> p.m. London, August 10. In order to deal with the abnormal war conditions, the Port of Jx>iidon Authority is immediately increasing storage accommodation at "the Millwail and Royal Victoria docks, by a hundred thousand square feet. RAID AT DUBLIN.
Received August 17, 5.5 p.m. London, August lfi. 'i party of armed and masked men intimidated the watchman and raided a store at Dublin, carrying off a quantity of rifles that were intended for the national volunteers.

At the request of the Australian Hospital Committee Dr. MCall and Mr. Wise visited the Australian Hospital at Wimercux and were gratified to find the general organisation very high, with extel'ent equipment and a skilled staff. fly the courtesy of the French and British Governments they visited other hospitals in the district.
