STRATFORD.
(From Oiir Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Tuesday. Fully 100 residents of the Mahoe district met in the public kail at Mahoe on Friday evening last to tender a farewell social to Mr. and Mrs. A. Colson, Mr. Colson having been appointed manager of the Monarale Dairy Factory at Cainbridge. The function is regarded as the most successful affair held at Mahoe. Duriug the evening items were contributed by Mrs. and Miss Pryce, Misa Coates, and Messrs Ross, Crosby, Richardson, and Hills. Mr. T. R. Anderson, director of the Mangatoki Dairy Company, spoke of the 13 years* of service rendered to the company by Mr. Colson, who had interested himself in local matters, had been for thirteen years postmaster, chairman of the school committee, and secretary and treasurer of the hall committee for a number of years. He then presented Mr. Colson, on behalf of the residents of the district, with a gold chain and to Mrs. Colson a silver entree dish. Mr. Jacob Marx, chairman of the Managtoki Dairy Company, Mr. S. J. Bennett, a former supplier, Mr. Cooper, general manager of the company, and Mr. McMahon, on behalf of the committee, also added their tributes. Mr. Colson, in reply, thanked those present for the handsome gifts presented to himself and Mrs. Colson, and stated that they would be treasured and bo a continual reminder of the pleasant days spent in Mahoe. What little he had done had been a pleasure and a duty, and lie hoped to return later on and renew his acquaintance with the people. Dancing was then proceeded with .till the wee sma' oors of the morning. The Borough Council and Electrical Supply Company are' again meeting in conference this evening relative to the purchasing of the company's plant by the council. The Stratford Patriotic Committee advertise that a public meeting will be held in the Town Hall on Saturday next at 2 p.m., to receive report and balancesheet and to elect a patriotic committee for the ensuing year. The care and assistance of our brave soldiers and their dependents, who have suffered in upholding the Empire*, will call for much wise thought and action in the near future. The public should, therefore, largely attend this meeting and by counsel and wisdom assist the matter in a proper direction.
The quarterly meeting of the Licensing Committee will be held on September 3.
