WOUNDED MEN IN EGYPT.

A CHAPLAIN'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, August 12. It is evident that everything; possible is being done for the sick and wounded Now Zealand soldiers in Egypt. The Minister of Defence has received a report from Licutenaut : Colonel Hall, A.Q.M.G , upon periodic visits to hospitals -n Egypt where New Zealandors are situated. The visits' were made by the Rev. G. H. Gavin (chaplain of the Church of England). "In accordance with your wish," the Rev. Mr. Gavin wrote to his officer, Lieu-tenant-Colonel Hall, "I, on ,lunc 15, visited Shcbin-el-rvt>m and went to the General Hospital and the Opthnlmie Hospital. I found the following New Zcalanders:—At the General Hospital: Private John Elliot (Canterbury R.C.), and Private James Hareus (Otago Infantry). Lance-Corporal E. Whillakcr (Otago Infantry), Private T. L. Reynolds (Otagn Infantry), and Gunner W. L. Howell (convalescent from pneumonia). Oplhiilmie Hospital: Private John Lalimev (Wellington Infantry) and Private H. Winter (Otago Infantry). "One English Bister, blight and very capable, is in charge of both hospitals, having •")" ))atients under her rare. An Kgyptiau surgeon is in attendance, giv ing a great deal of individual atlenfion to the men. The sister spoke higlily of him, and I had the pleasure of meeting him. With reference to their spiritual needs, 1 may say that they have been visited by 'an. Irish Roman Catholic priest from Tanta, and a sing sung ser- \ ice is conducted by a Baptist missionary, resident nearby. Mr. Fairmau, on Sunday evenings. A small local committee of residents has been formed, under Mr. Fairman, to keep the soldiers well supplied with comforts. My conclusion is that the men ace better looked after, and receiving more individual attention, than in the larger hospitals in Cairo. T saw their dinner, which was plentiful and good. The men are happy and contented, their only complaint being their conlineiuent to hospital. "On the same dav I visited Tanta. and went first to the Ophthalmic Hospital. I found the men at dinner. The food looked exceedingly nice. Roth French and EiHish wounded are there, as also French and English sisters. 1 found the followin',' New Xoalaiulers: -Sapper Thomas J. Drovsdalo (N.Z.K.!. Private Andrew James Willeocks (Otago lnfantryi, Private Gcore'c Wilson (Otago Infantry i Drummer W. C. Phillips (Olago Infantry). Private Perciva! Murfill (Wellington Infantry). Sapper A. D. Robertson (N.Z.E.). and Trooper Robert J. nunter Miller (A.M.R., 4th Wiiikalo).
