Longstaff presided over an attendance of about thirty suppliers. R.EPOR'I.' AND BALANCE-SHEET. The seventeenth annual report and balance-sheet noted that the results foi the period of ten months were good. The cost of making and placing the butter on the market were slightly less than last year. The statement of accounts included an estimated extra return for butter on consignment of £180; this was included in the profit and loss balance, and, if realised, a further payment could be made to suppliers. An extra eight shares had been taken in the Box Company. Portion of the premium had been written off, and buildings had been written down T'/o per cent. The quantity of mill; received was 1,0ff7,8171b, anil cream 202,4101b; thus produced 1'18,5831b of butter fat. which manufactured 140,5irtlb of butter. The average test was 3.83, and over-run lo.fil. The average grade for tlie year was 93.54. Tiic actual cost of making was .:>Bd per lb. Plating butter on the market, including charges, boxes, etc., brought the total cost to I.OOd per lb. The average cash payment to suppliers had been 12.(Hd per lb butter fat. It Would be necessary to elect throe directors in place of Messrs. K. T. Scott. John P. Copestakc and J. F. Giddy, who were eligible for re-elec-tion, and also an auditor, Mr. C. T. Mills being eligible for re-election. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman stated that, as the period was only 'for ten months, it was difficult to compare It with the full twelve months of the preceding year. Of the balance of £372, suppliers had already had an extra payment of one farthing, so that when the final payment was made thev would receive close on 13d.

Mr. Copestakc seconded the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. Dixon drew attention to the fact that, despite the extra charges owing to the war. the cost of placing on the market was one farthing less than the previous year. He considered that this must bo a mistake.

The secretary stated that the figures were correct.

Mr. R. Street, factory manager, stated tliat tJie installation of tlie larger boiler lia<l proved a great saving in fuel,' which had only cost about £4O. The report was adopted. ELECTION OF DIRECTORS. For the three vacancies on the directorate, Messrs. E. T. Scott, J. T. Copestake, T. Eynon, G. Rogers, V. D. Bishop and F. L. Bishop were nominated. Tlie election resulted in tlie rclurn ot Messrs. E. T. Scott. T. Eynon and X. B. Bishop by substantial majorities. Mr. Hugh Bailey was appointed auditor, MANAGERS SERVICES RECOGNISED. The eliaJrma.il referred to tlie good work done by the manager, not only during the butter season, but also in effecting alterations at the factory during the off season. He questioned whether they would get a hotter manager anywhere. A proposal that a. bonus of £lO should he granted called forth a dissentient voice from a shareholder, who considered that the salary should be raised instead. A query elicited the fact that the salary at present was JCKSD per annum. On tlie motion of Messrs. V. L. Bishop and A. C. Pcgg, it was unanimously decided to raise the salary to £2OO. The manager briefly returned thanks. HOME SEPARATION STANDARD. The chairman stated that, unless they made a' standard test for home separation, it would be necessary to instal an extra cream vat. The manager suggested that from September to March 33 would be a. fair standard. To have a standard during the slack season would, perhaps, be hard on the small supplier. The matter was left in the hands of tho manager. GENERAL. The secretary was voted a bonus of £5. CHAIRMAN. At a subsequent meeting of directors, Mr. G, M. Longstaff was re-elected chairman. VISIT TO THE FACTORY. After the meeting, tlie directors paid a visit to the factory, and expressed themselves as highly pleased with the improvements recently effected there, which had been completely remodelled and enlarged, and is now up to date in every respect. The making room, which was formerly about six feet below the ground level, had been raised up, and the whole building was now on the one level. A new Astra churn, of MOOlb mpacity, had been installed, and the freezing room, to hold 108 boxes, had been placed in a convenient position. Last year a new six horse-power boiler was installed, and tlie factory should now be able to cape, effectively and economically, under the capable nianagc-iient ef Mr. Street, with the atipplv for tiie next few years.
