THE ANNUAL MEETING. PltOl'TT HOES TO SOLDI ElhS. The annual meeting of the Tariki Dairy Uonnpany was held in tile Tariki Hall "on Tuesday night. Mr. J. Knowles (cliairimiui of directors) presided over a good attendance of shareholders. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, which have been published, the chairman said that comparing this year's balance-sheet with that of last year it would be seen that the milk was nearly luQOlbs short. The cost of repairs was very much higher, but it had to he considered flint the factory had been painted and various imijirovemenfs had been made. The cost of manufacturing had slightly increased, but this was only to 'he expected in view of the smaller amount handle..!. There was no further discussion on the report and ibalance-shect, wliieh were unanimously adopted. DIRECTORS. There were five nominations for three directors, and the voting resulted as follows:—Mcssi* A. E. Cowley 01, J. Jemi90U 40, W. V. Harkncss It, E. Jones 28, W. Tiewiu 23. The first three gentlemen were declared elected. Sir. Jj. M. Monteath was re-elected auditor. DONATION TO NATIONAL FUND. The chairman mentioned that the company (had some. £llO to carry forward, and «t would also he seen that £3.) had been donated to the Patriotic Fund. He would like the company to take into consideration the abundant year experienced, and remember that the good year was due to the war. He thought iomctliing should be done for the men who were fighting. He would like to see the shareholders rise to the occasion and do all they could for the men who would come home maimed after fighting for this country. Mr. Stephenson endorsed the chairman's remarks. While our fellow-coun-trymen were fighting we were living at home in peace and making more money than would have been the ease in normal times. It behoved everyone at a time lilce this, when there were large bonuses, to do something to hebi. The chairman then moved that £SO should be sent to. the Mayor oE New •Plymouth for the National Fund. Mr. Chapman moved, and Mr. Lawrence seconded, that the amount should be £IOO, and the chairman withdrew his motieV in favor of the amendment. The motion wa9 then carried with enthusiasm. DUAL TEST QUESTION. Mr. Jamieson brought up the question of the dual test at the factory, and said that the time had arrived when it should be abolished. The system was to take a casein test and butter-fat test, and he moved that this dual test should be abolished this season, the butter-fat test only to be taken. Mr. Therklegon seconded. The secretary read a return allowing that some suppliers lost on the dual test while as against a bntter-fat test, while others gained. The chairman said there was no other dairy factory in New Zealand which went in for a combined test. In America the matter had aroused a good deal of attention, and opinion was divided on the question. In answer lo a question the chairman said that after the Oovemmcnt had carried out the dual test at Tariki they did not recommend other factories to adopt it. Mr. Swanston moved an amendment that the present system should be retained. Mr. Bowling seconded. In reply to a question, the manager said It took him ha'f a day to do the lest, and he thought some of that time could be employed on more useful work. After some further discussion it was decided to take a butter-fat test only. THANKS. A vote of thanks was I to the staff. A similar compliment was paid to Mr. Stevenson for his services as a director.
