ITALIAN SUCCESSES. . OFFICIAL REPORT. Rome, August 0. A communique states that in Carnia one of our detachments, depending on the Cavallo between Preskopel and Palorade, attacked the enemy trendies and drove out the Austrians, who, during the night, attempted to retake tho position, but were repulsed with considerable loss. Wo occupied some trenches in the Plava zone, towards Zagovs and Paljero, and captured a quantity of munitions. The enemy yesterday made renewed attacks on the dockyard at Monfalcone. Bombs started a new fire, which, however, was quickly quenched.
GORIZIA. ONLY A PORTION RETAINED. Rome, August 9. The Austrians retain only two quarters of Gorizia. Ten thousand residents remain. There are free fights, in consequence of an impending famine, AU3TR/TANS FALL ISA OK. Received August 10, 8.40 p.m. Rome, August 10. Leibach messages state tlhat thirty thousand Italians, with powerful artillery, made a five hours' attack on Gorizia. ■ A number of Austrian batteries were silenced, and aft£r the last bayonet charge the Austtfajis fell back towards the town, leaving two thousand dead a.nd eight hundred prisoners. AUSTRIAN R.BPORT. Received August 10., 8.40 p.m. Amsterdam, August 10, An Amsterdam message says: * feoble attempt of tho Italian forces < penetrate our position at Zugora failed. One of our patrols on the Tyrol frontier repulsed an onemy half-coroipany, inflicting heavy losses.
