HUNNISH METHODS. TREATMENT OF RUSSIAN . PRISONERS. Received August 9, 0 p.m. London, August 8. Countess Beckendorff appeals for food for Russian prisoners in Germany. Medical reports state that they are not given meat, but chiefly unnutritious soup and sour black bread. The lumps of meat used fot- soup are soaked in Condy's fluid to disguise the smell. Disease is rampant, owing to improper and insufficient food., and the men are compelled to jrsrk hard. GOOl) COAL OUTPUT. London, August 8. The coal output in the northern pact of England lias been satisfactory since Mr. Lloyd George's appeal. Twentyfive per cent of the workers have enlisted, but nevertheless 462,000 tons of coal are handled each week, compared with 693,000 tons in the corresponding •yeriod of 1914. , NEW NAVAL MEDAL. London, August 8. A new modal, known as the Naval Ceneral Service Medal, has been created, for minor naval operations. The first recipients are the officers and men employed in the suppression of gun-run-ning in the Persian Gulf.
