MENINGITIS CASES.

A SUSPECTED "CARRIER." By Telegraph.—Press Association. C'hristchureh, August 0. The report that there is only one case of cerebro spinal meningitis in Chriatchurch was to-day confirmed by .Or. Chesson, Public Health Officer, who told a press reporter that there was no cause whatever for alarm or for any suggestion that the disease might seriously spread. This particular ease, Dr. Chesson added, was probably the result of living in an overcrowded house under insanitary conditions. Every precaution hart been taken to avoid infection, and the man's family were now isolated in the hospital as contacts for observation. The man himself was progressing favorably.

In addition to this definite ease there is another of the soldiers on leave from Trentham. This man is now isolated at the hospital aB a suspect "carrier" of the disease though not actually suffering himself. His family are also isolated for observation as contacts. This eaße, J)r. Chesson states, is quite distinct from the one previously mentioned, in which spinal meningitis lias actually manifested itself. DEATH AT DAXXEVIRIiE. Dannevirke, August 0, Private Robinson, of Gisborne, who was taken from the express train 011 Tuesday last while en route to his home from Waikanae Camp, and found to be suffering from cerebro spinal meningitis, died at the Dannevirke Hospital on Thursday night.
