Received August (i, 11.40 p.m. London, August 6. _ The Westminster Gazette notes the silence of the American press over ihe sinking of the' Iberian, and says that Germany's answer to the American Note has been most direct, having taken the practical form of killing without warning, an American seaman. Apparently, if the American press has its way, no notice will be taken of this impression of real feeling, but this matter will no more be lost upon Germany than upjn this country. THE SUBMARINES' TOLL. Received August G, 9 p.m. London, August 0. There were Hon departures and arrivals during the wjeek. Six British merchantmen were submarined, of a tonnage of 18,837, and also nine fishing smacks, TWO STEAMERS SUNK.

London, August 5. The British steamer Costello was sunk and one person drowned. The Liverpool steamer Portia has been sunk. All on hoard were saved.
