WARSAW FATED. v STAVING OFF THE EVIL DAY. Received August fi, 32.40 a.m. Petrograd, August G. , For the sake of the Poles the Russians have been doing their best this week to save Warsaw, but the military authorities fear that the evil day'can only he slaved off. THE GERMAN REPORT, ADVANCE PROGRESSING. Berlin, August 4. A communique states: Our pursuit of the Russians has, reached Kupischki, east of I'oniewicz. We pushed the Russians back to their advanced defensive positions north of Louum. A Prussian regiment, after heavy fighting, captured the N'arew crossing- near Ostralenka, capturing several thousand men and seventeen machine-guns. The pursuit continues. We threw the Russians before Warsaw from the Blonie position back to the outer line of the fortress. General, von Wttyrseh captured the west portion of the fortress of Ivangorod. The Russians yesterday were again defeated when attempting to arrest General von Mackenseu's advance on I.enczna and are now retreating northward between the Vistula and the Bug.

MUNITIONS WANTED. THEN A DECISIVE BATTLE. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) Received August 5, 5.5 p.m. London .August 4. The Times' correspondent at Pctrograd says that the debates in the Duma show that the output of arms and munitions is now rapidly rising. When home supplies and the allied industries can give tiie army all that is required, then Russia will give decisive battle to the invader.

A SURPRISE COUP. DRAMATIC FACTORS PROMISED. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) London, August 4. Petrograd messages to the Italian press suggest that the Grand Duke Nicholas is preparing a surprise coup. A correspondent to the C'orriere Delia Sera states that new and dramatic factors are likely shortly to affect the eastern struggle, the chances of ultimate success being with the innumerable and unconquerable Russians.
