PRISONERS WELL TREATED. BRIGHT FUTURE FOR AUSTRALIAN NAVY. Received August 5, 8.1.3 p.m. Melbourne, August ij. Rear-Admiral Cressweil has received a letter from the commander of submarine AE2, which was sunk in the Sea of Marmora, stating that the crew artimprisoned in tiie centre of Asia Minor. They are all well, and taking their imprisonment cheerfully. Their treatment is as good as it is possible to expect. None of the crew were lost when the vessel was sunk.
The letter adds: "When I am able to send my report, it will show that the manner in which all hands performed their duty will speak volumes for the future of the Australian Navy. On many occasions only a matter of seconds separated them from certain death, but all hands, down to the ypungest, did their work steadily, and their coolness was beyond all praise.

The United States officials unofficially admit that the British answer to American protests regarding interferences with neutral trade with Germany lias now reached a stage of academic discussion. Further Notes are pending, but an ultimate agreement is likely to be reached by arbitration.
