MEAT EXPORT. COMPLAINT OF PACKING FACTORIES. Sydney, August 4. At n meeting of Sydney meat packing factories it was stated that seven factories had been rendered idle owing to' the refusal of the War Oflico, for some unknown reason, to let any canned meat contracts to the New South Wales firms and the Federal <!ovenuuent declining to allow meat to be exported except for Government purposes. Complaints wore made that Americans had secured a monopoly of the War Ollice business. They were toid the me.it was all right and the price.s not too high, yet since the beginning of the year all orders had goiio to America, It was decided, to ask the Federal Government to relieve the deadlock, either by removing the embargo on export, or ascertaining the War Office's reasons for their refusal to accept contracts. DECLARATION- DAY. Sydney. August 4. To-morrow's celebrations of the declaration of war include a stoppage at ten o'clock in the morning, for five minutes, of all work in public 1 departments, and of all trams and traiijs. .Many firms are acting simultaneously.
