LAND VALUES LEAGUE.
"«a» THE USUAL RESOLUTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, August 3. The dominion conference of the Land Values League was concluded this morning. The lighting platform of the league was amended to read as follows:—(1) Assessment of nil rates on unimproved values; (2) land tax to be increased by another penny in the £, with no exemption for the' additional penny, the revenae so raised to be applied to the reduction of customs duties on necessaries of life, coupled with reduction of railway freights and fares; (.1) the adoption of effective voting and proportional representation for all elections. The national executive, with its headquarters at Auckland, for 3015-10, was constituted as follows:--President, Hon. (!. l-'owlds; vice-presidents. Messrs C. 0. McLean (Auckland). P. J. O'llegan (Wellington), 0. 11. Nightingale. (Christchurch), and Dunedin to be selected by the branch; secretary-treasurer, Mv. G. M. Fowlds.
A resolution was passed directing attention to the failure to purchase knv] for closer settlement under the Land for Settlement Act, and pointing out that according to the latest New Zealand Yc'.r Book £0,930,013 was expended in the acquisition of estates, with incidental expenses amounting to £581,832, while selectors on lands so acquired number?! 1 , only 5529 and 90,305 acres of purchased land were not disposed of.
