(Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Jloat: The market is weak, with a tendency downwards, partly owing to increased supplies available for the general public, together with a very moderate demand for all descriptions of nuitton. Canterbury 7Jd per lb for light weight, heavy weight tifd; North Island 7d for best quality, owes fijd. Lamb: Canterbury BJd, heavy weight B}d; other than Canterbury B}d for best quality light weight. Beef: There is only a small quantity of New Zealand beef on tlie market, and it is selling at: Hinds 7|d, fores OJd, chilled hinds S,}d, fores CJd. Butter: The market is quiet, but firm. Danish firm, but quiet, per cwt 104s to IOGs and up to Hißs; Siberian in good demand, finest 128s to 1325, exceptionally 1345-, Irish creamery firm, 148s to 150s, exceptionally ir>2s; Australian 138s to 1425; Argentine unsalted firm, 146s to 148 a.
Cheese: The market is quiet with a tendency in favor of the buyers. Canadian a little better tone, white, and colored ]>er cwt 74s to 7<ls; English Cheddar, the market is quiet, 04s to 9(is; New Zealand, market quiet, white and colored 7'ls to 70s. exceptionally 78s; United States, market dull, 05s to 745, accord'.!!;; to ([ualitv and size. Hem]): The market is steady, but the demand is only moderate. New Zealand good fair grade, per ton £3l 10s, fair £2O 10s, Manila, new graded, August to October shipment, fair £3O, medium £.32, The output from Manila for the week was 17,000 bales. Hops: The market is firm. English per cwt 105s to 130s; C'aliforman 90s to 105s.
Wheat: The market is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. August-Sep-tember shipment of Canadian per quarter 545; American 475. Oats; The market is quiet and steady. August-September shipment of Argentine per quarter 25a.
TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE, AN',) TALLOW SALES. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. At my four-weekly sale mi July 2". T catalogued 20 bales and 8!) sacks of wool, 1017 sheepskins, G casks and 07 tins of tallow, 11 boxs of margarine, S2l hides and 271 calfskins to a full attendance of buyers. Competition was very keen, prices for good line? of sheepskins showing an advance, but neglejtul anil inferior hardly held Uieir own. Cnitchings recovered the drop of last sale, and advanced lJd to 2d per lb. 'Hides advanced again Jd to Ad per lb, with the exception of farmer*, which hardly maintained late rat;s. Tailcw and calfskins no change.
